Envy

To envy or begrudge another
Yields spirit most unsound
A flaw of such ill temperament
That no one wants around
If all one does is yearn for that
Which others do possess
Your life that might be bountiful
Is unjustly viewed as less
It’s rooted in low self esteem
Which might not be one’s fault
It’s shadowy and ill-defined
Brings calmness to a halt
The view outside the window of
Your soul seems so much brighter
Yearning for the scales to tip
Won’t make your wrongs seem righter
Being just so discontent
With longing that's most spiteful
Evil is your calling card
If you think harm's delightful
For nothing good comes from the act
Of comparing and despairing
Instead acknowledge you enjoy
A life worthy of sharing!
