Hollow

It’s hard enough just getting by

When pushed to standard set so high

Even when you’ve got it “all”

For greener grass we always fall

We starve, then hunger, pay the price

Ambitions feel crushed by a vise

We leap from bed to face the day

To only have joy swiped away

We can’t find pleasure in what’s given

If we can’t “game” the algorithm

What hope have we if steered towards

A life that’s judged by vast rewards

A ruined path paved with excess

Unreachable and measureless

The target ever-moving on

We almost touch, then poof it’s gone

What’s left of our identity

If what we crave, can never be…
