Superstitious

Writer: Theresa BaxterTheresa Baxter

Do you walk under a ladder? To you, does broken mirror matter?

A black cat crosses paths with you

And when it does what do you do?

Do you avoid a sidewalk crack?

Afraid you’ll break your momma’s back?

Where did these superstitions start?

Beliefs like this set us apart

Our forebears passed them down to us

And carry on, I feel we must

These rituals can bring some peace

Or, entertain us at the least

So I indulge them now I’m older

I’ll throw some salt over my shoulder

Knock on wood when I’m too cocky

Fingers crossed when life gets rocky

There’s times things might seem inauspicious

Though often logic serves to fix this

But when bad luck makes me suspicious

I am NOT “super”, just a little “stitious”...
