Adieu Winter, Adieu

Oh wintery blanket you’ve snuggled me so

Your stay over-welcomed, I wish you to go

It’s not that you were a most bothersome guest

No, but I hope you find elsewhere to rest

Wherever you dwell there is cold in amount

Inconveniences piled, too high to account

You’ve hampered the buds and the slight blades of grass

Shaken the birds with your chilled icy blasts

Smiled we have through this prolonged hibernation

Pining we are for a Spring celebration!

While you have lingered, reluctant to leave

Secret or not, we have longed for reprieve

Escorting you out with “it’s me, it’s not you - ”

With genuine fondness, we bid you adieu…
