Dear Companion

*Illustration reference:

Photograph by Teresa Meester

Is there thing more sweeter than

The softest coat felt under hand

The faintest quiver of their heart

Just gentle strokes, so you don’t start

Or rouse them from their carefree snooze

Their squeaky snores, how they amuse

We love these beings with abandon

That nature grants us dear companion

Is so much more than we deserve

Their company we much prefer

And should their needs surpass our own

A greater love we’ve never known

Will drive us to the ends of earth

Their comfort always will come first

For one that loves without condition

Defers to us with pure submission

Requires us to ever prove

We’re worthy of their boundless love…
