December First

Writer's picture: Theresa BaxterTheresa Baxter

On the first day of December, there’s not a lot of stress

There’s lots of time for shopping, the house can stay a mess

The stores for weeks been beckoning with sales that can’t be beat

The city trees are strung with lights and line both sides of street

The Christmas songs drone overhead, and blast our airpods too

Mariah tells us every hour that all she wants is you

There’s warmth in eyes, and joy in hearts, the countdown now begins

Anticipation for arriving distance-challenged kin

I’ve made a list and checked it twice, to keep me right on track

It’s best to be prepared for all the chores that soon will stack

But just for now, I’ll chill, relax, and decorate the tree

For time goes quick, in blink of eye, in thick of it I’ll be!
