December Third

The morning of December third

The loveliest of things occurred

I woke to day that dawned so bright

Despite the chill, a brilliant sight

A sunrise that took breath away

Such colour burst through veil of gray

I watched it silent, still with awe

As if it were the first I saw

As if a babe so young and new

Had never seen sky blush with hue

The clouds like ripples, lightly kissed

With rose and turquoise, amethyst

Soon overcome by amber eye

That casts its gaze across the sky

A peek, a glance, then overtakes

Until we’re stood in full daybreak

Through icy haze that rose and fell

That crisp sharp bite with each inhale

Of air that seems to hang suspended

I watched in wonder, till it ended

Took but minutes, yet felt like years

On cheeks I felt the warmth of tears

This jaded heart of mine did melt

Reminded through the sway I felt

No matter how much gloom or pain

Such light will bring solace again

For how can soul not be inspired

By sky alit with coral fire…
