The Food of Fall

Writer's picture: Theresa BaxterTheresa Baxter

Fall brings out the hankering

For something warm to eat

Soups and stews are perfect when

The weather’s lacking heat

My favourite is a red-wine stew

That’s filled with veg and beef

Cooked for hours, all day long

It tastes beyond belief

Thick and rich, slow simmering

The smell intoxicates

With fresh-baked bread served on the side

Deliciousness awaits

Pepper hot or sweetly spiced

With bay or cinnamon

Cumin, chile, nutmeg, clove

Adds much when added in

I recommend you eat the food

That keeps you satisfied

This season’s best with seasoning

That keeps us warm inside!
