The Lily

No flower to my eyes

More truly exemplifies

The feverish season

For the very reason

Its blooms with pomp explode

Stem carries an awkward load

Bud breaks and blooms unfurl

The petals stretch and curl

Its glamour inspires awe

Though it looks a gaping maw

In climes that might impede

This beauty’s fight to seed

Its range of tints surprises

Blessed we are it rises

From bulbous root they come

The glorious lilium
