Gray skies and long goodbyes
Pale melancholy, a freshman’s folly
A lost pearl earring, Love disappearing
When youthful mistakes bring heartache
And harsh withdrawal, those midnight calls
No matter the pain you’ll take it again
For wounds that heal can scar with steel
No longer rattled, nor pawned like chattel
As separate ways end halcyon days
Red eyes, black heart, white hot, fresh start
The time that passes, through rose-coloured glasses
That awkward age of mint and sage
Is yet remembered, in cold November
