In the Name of Peace

Writer: Theresa BaxterTheresa Baxter

Do we truly understand

The meaning of this day

Wearing of the poppy red

Seems most respectful way

But that is hardly even done

So barely does suffice

To honour those both here and gone

That made such sacrifice

To us that live in countries safe

From travesty of war

We must make special efforts to

Be deeply thankful for

Our safety and security

We seem to take for granted

Protecting is a thankless chore

Requires nerve substantive

I’m not naive to say that truce

Is just a wish away

I won’t diminish gravity

We all feel on this day

But still I hope that we will learn

The drive of hate must cease

And appetite for endless war

Be lost, in name of Peace…
