Live to Read

Writer's picture: Theresa BaxterTheresa Baxter

Pick up a book and you will find

A way to leave this world behind

You can instantaneously

Tour the world, traverse the sea

Fall in love, when unaware

Sense the touch of one not there

Laugh till tears stream down your face

Or weep when life is left to waste

There’s books that help our souls to heal

Where wounds excised will soon reveal

How words and writing can be cure

Connections made, that do endure

We learn that even miles apart

Shared passions live deep in our hearts

Now through this poem I am pleading

Please do not dampen love of reading

We should not ban books from our youths

That dialogue of thorny truths

Instead we’ll learn much better coping

When those books and minds are open!

We’ve come so far from darkest ages

When we revere our hallowed pages
