Ode to Trader Joe's Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups

Writer: Theresa BaxterTheresa Baxter

If there’s one thing I’ll eat full up

It’s Trader Joe’s Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups

There’s something in this chocolate treat

That causes one to eat and eat

It might be magic, hocus pocus

For when they’re near I lose all focusAll I think to do is munch

Rip off that lid and grab a bunch

And savour slowly, one by oneLet each dissolve upon my tongue

That peanut butter smooth and rich

The coating soothes my sweet tooth’s itch

The saddest part is when they’re gone

For then I must rely upon

Any friend that crosses border

Turns me into Trader Hoarder

For none up north will ere be found

There is no Trader Joe’s around!

So if I’m careful, I can ration

Occasional sweet satisfaction -

Oops. One tub gone, now on to two

When that is gone, what will I do?

I’ll learn to live with memory

Of what this tidbit meant to me

And how there’s nothing that is better

Than dark-chocolate-coated peanut butter…
