"Batman vs. Solomon Grundy

by David Finch

Oh woeful the lore of one Solomon Grundy

Whose very sad life, like a rank salmagundi

Is hodgepodge of grief and so much misery

As if his quintessence, in cruel pillory

Were never to reach a deserved peaceful state

In game with The Devil, both at a stalemate

Not quite alive, but not resting in death

Angry like hell as he plumbs its vile depths

Corpse in a swamp, but was re-animated

A chlorophyll dose has him invigorated

Murderous thoughts run like rings around Saturn

Who comes soon to rumble? The dauntless Green Lantern!

Away at each other these two enemies pound

But a zombie-like foe is real hard to keep down

So the battles go on, and no doubt take their toll

And Solomon Grundy, bereft of a soul

Will fight every hero, from super to bat

Sometimes he will win, but more often knocked flat

How much do we want that all good will prevail

Until then we’ll keep up our hopes with these tales!

If we’ve learned anything from revered comic books-

If evil seeks brawl, better put up its dukes!
