Summer's Day

Writer's picture: Theresa BaxterTheresa Baxter

Skulking, we emerge from din

To baking heat that prickles skin

And like a bloom from dusk to dawn

Our petals yawn to draw upon

The healing rays of golden light

That kindles drive and burns off blight

What a cure-all is the sun

Devour its rays till day is done

With sun comes life comes summer day

In reverie we while away

For us tis fleeting, transitory

We drink in deep, this precious glory

For even now, we feel it waning

Its vigor sapping, its power draining

But till it sleeps in hibernation

Enjoy with me in celebration

There’s little else that reigns supreme

Than smiling face bathed in sunbeam
