The Olive

Oh tiny fruit of olive tree

Crop of the Gods, we bow to thee!

An evergreen that thrives far south

Tis tasty treat I pop in mouth

Its gnarled trunk and silver foliage

Extended branch conveys the message

Significant, historically

Peace and love, camaraderie

And yet this simple stalwart shrub

For vital trade, it is the hub

Like grape gives wine, the olive oil

From hardy plant that springs from soil

Is liquid gold the world consumes

From smallest seed such promise blooms

The plump green drupe that rests in brine

Will turn ambrosial in due time

Slightly pungent, dusky hue

Nutritious and delicious too

So nourished by this champion

Gem of the Mediterranean!
