A burning globe that keeps us warm
That takes the chill off winter storms
Every day it stands its guard
Dependable and working hard
I wonder if it ever tires
Of flaring with those endless fires
I wonder if at night it rests
Does it have a starry nest?
Yet will persistence take a toll
Cause it to turn black as coal
I wish I could ease daylight’s load
That might ensure it won’t explode
And leave us cold and in the dark
Wistful for its golden spark
I hope the Sun in all endeavour
In perpetuum will beam forever…
